Changes in the Security Industry Regulation in NSW recently, in 2006 and 2007, have made the administration of security services much more complicated. There’s some very serious regulations that need to be adhered to.
There’s the provisional licensing system which where all new guards to the industry are on a provisional licence which means they need to be buddied up with an experienced guard for 12 months, like a ‘P’ licence on your driving licence, and it’s very important to ensure that this regulation is adhered to because if you breach your licence you lose your licence to operate.
So one of the key challenges for Event Managers and Security Operators are to ensure that the new licensees working at events are properly managed, that your paperwork and your standard operating procedures and your training procedures are documented and available for the security industry registry licensing police to review and comment on, and then the most other complicated factor would be ensuring that you’ve got the right mix of experience, size and attitude to look after the crowd in the manner that they come to.
