Rachel Hurford, Director, Special Events Management
My role title is Director, Special Event Management. I work within the Office of Protocol and Special Events which sits within the NSW Department of Premier and Cabinet, so it’s a bit of a mouthful.
I lead the Special Event Management team, so in role we’re responsible for the creative development, planning and delivery of major events and celebrations on behalf of the NSW Government. Those events can range from large-scale public celebrations and regular annual celebrations such as Australia Day, one-off events such as the Sydney Harbour Bridge 75th Birthday which was held in March 2007, we’ve regularly been called upon to host ticker-tape parades for Olympic teams coming home after Olympic Games, the Sydney Swans victory parade in 2005 and then we also support the Premier in his regular hosting activities, so it may be a State funeral, a ceremonial event such as Anzac Day, or hosting Fred and Mary from Denmark for lunch, for instance.
